Karim Benzema’s message about Deschamps!
Minutes after his agent dropped a bombshell on social media, Karim Benzema had his own say on his World Cup departure, with a short message which appears to be another swipe at France head coach Didier Deschamps. The Real Madrid striker was sent home from the French camp after picking up an injury before the tournament began.
However, it later emerged that the injury was not serious and that Benzema could have played in the knockout rounds. Ultimately, Deschamps decided to do without Benzema, not only sending him home hastily but choosing not to call him back. Benzema watched on, perfectly fit, as his teammates reached the final without him.
The messages from Benzema and his agent. “Cause once you look at it, you know!” tweeted Benzema on Monday evening. The message is a clear reference to the tweet his agent, Karim Djaziri, sent just minutes previously, which showed that three different specialists confirmed he could have played in the knockout rounds.

Djaziri even included video proof in his tweets and a not-very-cryptic accusation aimed at Deschamps. Benzema’s France career has been mired in controversy and this latest and final episode is just another. There will be no more, however, as he has now retired from international football.
This war-of-words is not a fitting farewell for a player of his calibre, but it is perhaps illustrative of how his international career has not reflected his success at club level. Clearly he is not happy with how he has been treated by France and it’s easy to see why.
It has also emerged that, within the French camp in Qatar, there was never any suggestion of bringing Benzema back into the fold once he was recovered. That’s despite the fact he could have played from the last 16 onwards. Deschamps was always quick to rule out any return for the Real Madrid star. The rules would have allowed it, but there was no willingness from the French side to look into it.
