De Bruyne named man of the match: “I don’t know why I got this award”
Belgium won 1-0 against Canada in the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier. At the end of the challenge, Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne received the best player trophy. An assessment that FIFA gives after every World Cup match.
The Belgium midfielder was honest and said: “I didn’t understand why they gave me this award, as I played poorly. Maybe they gave me the award because I’m famous”, said the Manchester City star.
“I didn’t give what was expected, maybe the whole team didn’t give their best, especially in the first half. We felt the pressure before this challenge and suffered in the first half, while in the second we were more concrete.
“Anyway, I think this trophy could have been deserved by Courtois who saved the penalty and kept us in the game or Batshuayi who scored the goal. I didn’t deserve it”, said Kevin De Bruyne.
